Speaking on what she hoped to achieve with her latest release, the artist explained, “Most of my songs tell a story, but ‘Pines’ was made purely to conjure a feeling: that intoxicating draw of desire. In a modern, sex-positive way, I wanted to bathe my ears and those of the listener in all the chills of breath on your neck and dopamine in your brain that floods with new magnetism, emotional intimacy, and connection between two people, especially when they can’t help but pine for more.”
