While her Executive Producer stint on Only Murders In The Building helped Selena Gomez bag herself an Emmy nomination, it seemed only right that she would set her sights on a new project — a possibility that is imminently materialising. With recent reports hinting that Gomez will serve as a producer in a modernised remake of the 80s cult classic, Working Girl, speculation has already begun to culminate around the potential series and its scandalous plot.

So how much of these musings are confirmed? For now, we simply know that Gomez is in the final discussions regarding her role within the series — which could even include the star herself being cast as an actor simultaneously. Appointing Ilana Pena – creator of the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President – to adapt the screenplay for the film, few other details have been fully fleshed out, including the potential cast members for the reboot.

Following an ambitious Staten Island secretary in the 1988 original, Working Girl depicts a story of a woman who takes over an office while her boss recovers from a leg fracture — who goes on to take credit for all of the work she had done in her absence. A story of scandal, revenge and dirty office politics, Working Girl would undoubtedly set modern-day movie-lovers ablaze with excitement — and we can think of no one better to bring it home than Selena Gomez herself.
