Sometimes, the weight of the world gets a little too heavy to bear, and venting your frustrations is the only viable solution. Well, “I Want To Destroy Something Beautiful” is all of experimental artist Jackal’s frustrations, wrapped up in a warped sonic veil. With the surge of trap sensibilities harshly juxtaposing the other-worldly and syrupy tone of singer-songwriter Roniit as chaotic beat drops hurl listeners into a melting pot of genres and tempos, the varying tone of the track hopes to reflect the frustrating emotions that lie at its core.
“‘I Want To Destroy Something Beautiful’ comes from a bitter place,” explains the LA-based talent. “For weeks and weeks, I was pissed off at the world and feeling vengeful. Over the course of this time, I aimed to make something that sounded like the end of everything. I told Roniit my thoughts and the title that I had in mind, and she worked around that. I really like how her voice brought a certain numbness to the track, which works really well with the production.”
With the new track standing as the Jackal’s first of the year, and a candid sonic narrative on the sometimes unfair complexities of life being served up in a repeat-worthy manner from the Skrillex and Diplo-approved artist, it is safe to say we will be eagerly awaiting his next move.
