NEW NOISE: MAR

The Latin American artist unveils her brand new single along with a hypnotic music video.

Mar
Mar

While Mar might be relatively new to our playlists, the Latin American artist is by no means new to the music scene — as “QUÉDATE” goes a long way to prove. Practically sparkling with energy, the track plays on the butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling you get when making a lustful connection with a stranger. Similarly, Mar’s sensual and soft vocals beckon the same feeling — leaving us enchanted by her soundscape upon the very first listen.

Unveiled alongside a music video that is just as intimate as its soundtrack, Mar enters a journey from her sofa in a tracksuit to a sun-soaked beachside — mimicking the ways in which love and lust can uplift and transform us. Finding the perfect balance between electronic ambience and enchanting symphonies, “QUÉDATE” oozes with feminine power, and sets Mar as the frontrunner of self-empowering anthems.

To celebrate the release, we sat with Mar to discuss the making of the single and what is next to come. So, to stream the music video and to read the full interview, head below…

You started in the music industry at the very young age of 13! What was it like kicking off your career at that age and growing within quite an intense environment?
Kicking off my career at age 13 was something I hadn’t anticipated whatsoever! I initiated this journey with a deeply intense stage fright that I viewed as impossible to overcome. As time went on, I discovered how enormous of a blessing it was to have put myself through a high level of discomfort in the name of love, growth, and evolution! Now, I am 21, officially beginning my career in Milan, wrapped in the warm embrace of who I once was and who I’m becoming. The best things in life come when you least expect them.

You regard yourself as a Latin Pop artist! Which other Latin Pop artists do you cite as inspirations?
In Latin Pop, I really admire J LO, Karol G, Rosalía.

Let’s talk “Quédate”! What was the production process like behind the track?
I have experienced infatuation with strangers. I romanticise situations often and I feel that we should romanticise our lives! It’s the best way to live. Everything I do, I do it with a passion and I think that life is too short to hold back from our truest expression.

And, it is based on the idea of being magnetically attracted to strangers and infatuation! Is this something you have experienced yourself?
I have experienced infatuation with strangers. I romanticise situations often and I feel that we should romanticise our lives! It’s the best way to live. Everything I do, I do it with a passion and I think that life is too short to hold back from our truest expression.

What feelings do you hope to inspire in listeners with the track?
I hope to create a home with my music that inspires the feeling of openness, impulsiveness, silliness, connection to all that is, love in all its shapes, hues and forms.

Tell us one thing you’d like us to know about you that we wouldn’t be able to find in a press release!
Although I am making music that flows and feels good, I am such an old soul and with time you will see that the essence of my being is ancient and that there is nothing I desire more than to connect us to our deepest, purest essence and remembrance of where we truly come from and what we truly are. All that you see is not all that I am.

Aside from your exciting new release, what is next for you?
Music, experimentation, live shows and watching the mould of who I am becoming take form – I am in this process of exploring my fullest potential.
