In the same psychedelic lens and subversive format adopted by Billie Eilish, George Perris officially unveils his cover of “My Future” alongside a hypnotic music video. At a sun-soaked seaside, the visual pans to Perris as he employs his angelic vocals to a narrative about isolation, loss and yearning for a love that is just out of reach. Interspersed with clips of Perris running backwards instead of forwards and submerging into an upside-down pane of water, his introspective take on the track helps to exaggerate the ways in which unrequited love throws us completely off balance.
Talking on the track, the artist explains, “At the start of lockdown I’d gone through several years of big changes in my life, so I threw myself into psychoanalysis to try to focus on what I needed and wanted. As soon as I heard ‘My Future’ I knew I had to create my own version of it: it’s a big part of the puzzle in terms of not just reflecting on the past, but looking forward to the future and where I’m going next in my life.”
Backed by an emotionally-charged string percussion, the track manages to hold onto an element of optimism while capturing Perris’ vulnerable poignance. And, as the effort goes to great lengths to show, George Perris has absolutely got to know himself — and we are more than happy to be his witness.
Hacked from his recently released third full-length English-language album,No Armor, the visual is available to view now…
