“I had this epiphany that we needed to come back to ourselves and the joy and comfort we found in each other when we began writing music together,” shared Danielle — one half of Vancouver alt-rock duo Dear Rouge.
With this enlightenment, the pair went on to create their third full-length album, Spirit, an effort charged with vulnerability, messy emotions and unshakeable danceability. Speaking of the album as a whole, Dear Rouge explain, “Spirit is the most vulnerable and raw side of Danielle’s inner thoughts, and the line being thrown from these questions and deep reckonings within oneself, urging you to grab hold and hang on for dear life.”
Yet just a few weeks after they dropped their highly anticipated work, Dear Rouge are back again to give us all the feels with their high-energy track, “Gimme Spirit”, released alongside a deliciously nostalgic music video. Reminiscent of the mischief and charm of the “Teenage Dirtbag” era, “Gimme Spirit” features a rock-tinged hook that instantly gets you on your feet, pairing with an anthemic topline that demands to be sang at the top of your lungs. While the visual plunges you into the middle of a frat-style party, the track gets us all reflecting on the careless and unadulterated fun shared between friends at the peak of adolescence.
