PREMIERE: XVOTO – “CATACUMBAS”

Jazz Alonso and Saigon Fury collaborate to create a brand new visual for their punching and playful new single.

Few can say they met their match in the warm and hazy overhead lights of a McDonald’s restaurant — yet this happens to be the origin story of the industrial rap duo, XVOTO. Pairing high-energy beats with playful lyrical prowess, Jazz Alonso and Saigon Fury have collaborated to create “Catacumbas”, the first single hacked from their debut self-titled EP.

While Jazz flexes her bilingual skills by singing the entire song in Spanish, international speakers worldwide are warmly welcomed into their base-heavy soundscape. Though the vocals remain airy and flirtatious throughout, the track packs an undeniable punch as its grainy production pounds through your ribcage.

Speaking of their personal interpretation of the track and motivations behind its visual, XVOTO explain, “‘Catacumbas’ is a comic strip about a girl who, having moved on from her ex-boyfriend, sees him as a zombie trapped in the past. She taunts him and keeps renouncing him, insisting that they’ll only ever see each other again in the catacombs (Catacumbas) e.g. when they’re dead. We shot the video in Scicli, Sicily, an area full of catacombs, caves and abandoned churches. It’s primarily a performance video of us taking over the town. We tried to contrast rustic Mediterranean life with our cartoonish visuals.”

Accompanied by a cinematic visual, “Catacumbus” captures Jazz in a totally empowered state, while the fluidity of her flow translates to her effortless choreography — proving the duo’s ability to flesh out every project to the maximum. To stream the track and visual now, head below…
