There are not many people that can say that they have worked with legends of music’s past, but Pete Rock is one of them. Standing as a pioneering force within the world of hip hop, the creative has made a name for himself not only because of his sealess beats but thanks to his partnerships with the likes of hip hop royalty such as Run-D.M.C, Public Enemy and Busta Rhymesm – aka defining names of the 90s music scene.

Looking to transport us back into the heyday of hip-hop, Pete has now released his newest track, “Listen Close”. With the sweet screech of DJ disks lying over adlibs and samples galore, a cacophony of complimentary sounds melts into a track that beautifully encapsulates the genre it was born out of. With an earworming quality to it, the tune promises to have you captivated upon first listen and headed straight towards that repeat button.

Now, while one release from the legend himself is enough to stir up some excitement, this is not where Pete plans on stopping this year. Gearing up to drop the fourth wave of his hit instrumental EP series, the artist has assured that his fans will be fed with “Petestrumentals 4” later this year. Set to dominate airwaves with his nostalgic sounds, Pete Rock is not one to be sleeping on.
