Dripping in soul, charisma and a catching groove, Acantha Lang comes in hot with her horn-heavy new single, “River Keep Runnin”. Beginning with a smooth and sultry soundscape, a joyous beat breaks loose — bringing with it a chorus of saxophones and a blast of infectious energy. While delivering an empowering message to stay strong in the face of adversity, the lyrics reach into the listener’s heart and soul, drawing them away from darkness and into the light.
Though boasting the feel-good vibes of a dance anthem while oozing the seductive rhythm of blues music, “River Keep Runnin” attests that Acantha’s most impactful instrument is her voice. Consolidating that fact, the accompanying visual shows the artist bathed in a singular spotlight while she loses herself in her sparkling melody.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Acantha explains, “The song was inspired by the hurricanes and the flooding of the Mississippi River that has brought so much devastation to my hometown, New Orleans (my momma lost everything on three separate occasions due to hurricanes!). It’s also a metaphor about going through dark times, feeling on edge…but somehow, in the end, you find the strength to stand up, fight and keep on! Also, rivers are very prominent in African American folklore. They are used for positive imagery like baptisms and saving one’s soul, and also has very dark connotations like the use of the Mississippi River during the slave trade in the deep south of America.”
