Friday is a day dedicated to dancing the troubles of the past week away, and thanks to Jonas Rathsman, today is no exception. Dropping the groove-worthy tune “Heartbeat”, the DJ and producer has treated us to a dose of electronic sensibilities, sure to transport you straight to the dancefloor. But, while rhythmic at its core, upon further inspection the track boasts a deeper, more meaningful soul.
Having founded the pioneering ELEMENTS initiative, the artist has always been an advocate for celebrating and appreciating the wonders of the natural world. And now, he has looked to channel this passion into his “Heartbeat” music video. With a poignant message prevailing, viewers are invited to view mankind in action as they chop down trees and take advantage of the land. But, with nature’s true force being physcialised, we are treated to the scenes of Mother Nature fighting back, as the elements ultimately emerge triumphant.
“‘Heartbeat’ is a very special release to me – it was a breakthrough moment after feeling, like many others, I’m sure, creatively drained during the pandemic,” explains Jonas. “I really couldn’t find inspiration at all in the studio. An old friend of mine, Jonathan, who is also a photographer told me he felt the same way, was bored and wanted to work on a project that could lift him up a bit. He had the idea of working on a music video together! I had just finished ‘Heartbeat’ at the time and I said yes straight away. I’ve had this music video idea in my head for years, it’s about mankind’s twisted relationship with nature and how we are messing up the planet – but in this story, Mother Nature is fighting back! I never felt like I had the time to do it, until now! Jonathan loved my idea and introduced me to his friend Andreas Kjellgren who’s a director. Within a couple of weeks, Andreas had turned my idea into an epic script. With the help of amazing friends we then shot the whole film over two magical days. So grateful to all of the incredible people involved in the shoot.”
