It is every artists dream to create music which people can immerse themselves within, yet taking this to a whole new level, Cara Hart looks beyond the limits of technology to bridge the gap between her performance and her audience — creating a VR-style viewing experience with the 360 degree visual for her track, “Mirror”. Hacked from her eponymous EP “I HART CARA”, “Mirror” is just an exemplar of Cara’s ability to employ a break-the-mould style of tune-crafting to explore the complexities of the femme fatale.

Having collaborated on the video with the 2×20 team to create the visual, Cara continues her mission to stand against the current of mainstream artists. On the creation of the video, Cara explains, “I wanted it to be an immersive experience for the viewer, with the last few years being quite isolating for people, I wanted them to feel like they were there with me. With that mindset, I also embodied the idea of having an audience in front of me, which elevated my performance. It’s not a typical music video, but I guess I’m not a typical musician.”

Turning to the expertise of visual artist Lolita, the pair combined their artistic vision to create an avatar for the effort, in which Lolita explains, “I wanted to work with the idea of not controlling yourself/body, being held, you cannot do much for keeping yourself alive, using Shibari as a tool to dominate yourself, she hanged herself, she does not want to have control of her future, she is OK with whatever happens, truly, with or without shibari, I deeply believe that we are all in this same page, we can’t really control anything”.

While Cara loses herself within her sound in “Mirror”, a camera pans constantly around her, giving her audience free will to decide exactly what they want to see. This revolutionising accessibility laces every trap of the artist’s EP — from the chest-thumping “I HART CARA” to the gritty and sultry “7 Sins”. With a fresh attitude towards her artistry and a passion to execute her vision with finesse, Cara Hart lands herself on our ones-to-watch radar for this year.
