Having spruced up our anti-Valentine’s playlist well in advance this month, we thought we had heard the very best of Ocean Tisdall with his new single, “White Lies”. Yet here to seal the deal, the alt-pop artist premieres the official music video — a portrayal of the inner turmoil that comes as a package deal with a toxic relationship. The self-directed video begins with disorientating camera footage stooped in mystery and darkness. Eventually, the Irish artists vocals penetrate the thick atmosphere with ethereal notes, which are backed by a choir-like harmony. Playing a snippet of a phone call full of white lies and gaslighting, a distressed Ocean gives way to his emotions and calls out his faceless lover.

Shot in his Uncle’s abandoned house, the visual reflects the artists own feelings of abandonment, which leads to his slow descent into madness. Though the tracks melody remains triumphant, the music video lends a poignant tone to its premise — which ends with Ocean burying his emotions and his lover six-feet-deep underground in a manic state of misery. Keeping the inspiration behind this close to his chest, Ocean Tisdall explains, “The Music Video for White Lies was an interesting one, we shot this in my great uncles abandoned run-down house in Ireland and it was actually the same house where we had written the White lies record previously so it definitely felt very full circle. Picture this, Me, my director, a camera guy, my friend holding a light, my sister screaming “yassss” and my little brother with a grave digger! haha That’s all i’m saying, you’ll have to watch the video to find out how it all came together.”

The music video is available to stream now, and is the perfect post-valentines watch for a lover scorned. To watch it now, scroll below…
