What better way to welcome the weekend than with the sounds of a rap collab? Dropping his track “All Night”, Grammy-nominated producer-turned-artist S-X has looked to intoxicate his fans once more with his melodic bars and sensual lyricism. And, with acclaimed rapper Trippie Redd linking up with the artist to lend his effortless flow to a set of bars for the track, it becomes all the more worthy of praise.

When discussing the collaboration, S-X went on to explain, “I’m super glad that I’m dropping songs from the album now. The song is about wanting to be with your special person, all night. When you miss someone and you need their presence, this is the song for that.”

Upon the release of the acclaimed tune, the artist sat down with Wonderland to discuss all things music and albums. Head below to enjoy our interview with S-X. S-X’s new single All Night ft. Trippie Redd is out now.

Hi S-X, how are you? Where are you right now?
Hello! I’m really good, thank you! Right now I’m chilling on a bean bag in my living room, listening to some of the album and playing Call of Duty! The good life.

First of all, can you talk us through the meaning behind your name?
It means Sam. But the S represents “Sam” and the X represents anything. It’s an open space. Like X Factor, X marks the spot, X files. The hyphen separates the two. Simple. Maybe one day I’ll change my name to Sam.

And, you started your career as a producer! What inspired you to make the change and start focusing on vocals?
It was always something I wanted to do. I remember in primary school I would sing in plays and I was always musical. But I didn’t really have the confidence to pursue that in my teens, nobody was doing that. So I kind of did it when nobody was looking. But I started when it felt right. In 2017, the first song I ever dropped was the first song I ever wrote and recorded. I can really hear how far I’ve come in those (almost) 5 years.

Who would you cite as your musical inspirations?
Pharrell and Kanye are definitely two of my main inspirations as they started out as producers too. Then progressed into their artistry and fashion. That’s exactly where I see myself heading in the future. I only wear shorts, so I’ll definitely be dropping my own shorts line when it’s time. I believe in timing rather than rushing things. I also love Phil Collins.

Congratulations on the release of “All Night”! Can you talk us through the meaning behind the track?
Thank you! I’m super glad that I’m dropping songs from the album now. The song is about wanting to be with your special person, all night. When you miss someone and you need their presence, this is the song for that.

And, it has a feature from none other than Trippie Redd! How did you go about getting Trippie on the track?
My manager, Mams, made it happen. We wanted to get him on the song so he sent it to them, next thing I know we have the verse. I don’t usually have features on my music so you know this one is special. But that won’t be the case for the album.

You also have your debut album dropping this year. How are you feeling about the world hearing your first fully-formed project?
I’m ready, to be honest. It feels right and like it’s time. I’ve dropped 4 mixtapes since 2017 and it would be wrong to not share the music I’ve been holding back on releasing and saving for this project.

Do you have a favourite track from the upcoming project?
I think I do. It doesn’t actually have an official name right now, but it’s “26“ at the moment. But who knows if it will even make the final album. I change my mind so often. It’s annoying at times, but it’s also what keeps me going.

Aside from the album drop, what else does 2022 have in store for you?
I’m going on tour, and will be working on another album. I’d love to try and drop another towards the end of the year.
