Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh star in Nolan’s latest thriller.
Having just got over the time-blending whirl-wind of his latest blockbuster Tenet, Christopher Nolan is finally readying to plunge us right back into action with new film, Oppenheimer. If we had to choose the best thing to come out of recent cinematic history, the pairing of Nolan’s enigmatic storytelling and award-winning directing with the unmatched acting of Cillian Murphy would be at the top of our list.
Luckily for us, the duo are collaborating for the sixth time to bring us a story based on the American theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer — or as most know him, the “father of the atomic bomb”. Packed to the brim with an explosive cast including Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Rami Malek, the film is projected for release on the 21st of July next year. Though the details of the thriller have been kept firmly under wraps, here is everything we know so far about the upcoming biopic.
A communal need to see Cillian Murphy take a leading role in a Christopher Nolan has been brewing for years. So what better news than to know Murphy will be stepping into the eponymous role of Oppenheimer opposite his screen-wife, Emily Blunt, as Katherine Oppenheimer. Though many of the cast and their prospective roles are not known knowledge, we can be absolutely sure that the ever-growing list of iconic fan favourites will measure up to the blockbusters success.
A triumphant and tragic plot
The critical clue from the working title hails into focus the main plot of the story: a biopic of the individual that headed research for the Manhattan Project, which would eventually come to produce the worlds first nuclear weapons. Even better, however, is Universal’s elaboration of the picture, describing it as “An epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it”.
Considering the hype that Oppenheimer has already garnered, and with updates from producers coming in hot almost daily, we are officially counting down the days to be catapulted back in time.
