When crafting a new collection, many turn to great works of art, iconic literature or even a location, close to a designer’s heart, in the hopes of finding inspiration. However, it is fair to say that one of the best places to start when seeking out a theme for a creatives next line of designs is a brand’s history. And, with this in mind, Maria Grazia Chiuri has turned to the women of Dior’s past to inform the house’s Fall 2022 collection.
Looking to Justine Picardie’s inspiring account of Catherine Dior’s life, sister to the legendary Monsieur Dior, that lies at the heart of the beloved book, Miss Dior, the creative director hoped to inject a sense of empowered female energy into the new line, one that reflected the necessity of women in the making of the infamous brand. With the phrase “strength through unity” ringing out, the house looked to cast its female-centric history in a more modern light, culminating in a highly collaborative collection that embraces the ideas of both togetherness and individualistic style.
