Dropping a debut album is no easy feat. Standing as an artist’s official introduction to the world, one that hopes to spotlight their raw musical ability and unique tone, it is fair to say that it must situate itself as one to remember. And, someone making this monumental task seem like light work is the rising musical talent A!MS, with his debut album Offshore.

Best described as a firey sonic journey across tempos, genres and musical sensibilities, the range that listeners are treated to with track’s such as “Big Boy Problems”, “Diablo” and “iLIKE” is beyond that of any album to drop this year. Teetering on the brink that separates the brash energy of rap and the sweet melodies synonymous with the R&B-meets-pop world, the album calls on collaborators such as AV Allure, Alika and Grizzy, meaning that it refuses to be restricted by a specific genre, a quality that is most endearing. But, even though each track is diverse in tone, one thing that persists throughout is the artist’s bold vocal ability.

And, while the music that fills out the album is enough to warrant some serious hype around A!MS, this is not where the excitement ceases. Also dropping the accompanying visuals to track “Hail”, the rapper proves that his artistry knows no bounds.
