If like us, you’re waiting for Friday, the sounds of Madam Bandit’s catchy new single, “Gin and Tonic,” is the only thing you should be playing, getting you weekend-ready.
Accompanied by a music video (expect lots of bubble baths and pizza-eating), the Californian-born’s latest single follows the story of her and her husband, and how they both went through a period of deconstructing their Mormon faith.
“My husband loves a good gin and tonic. In fact, it’s his favourite cocktail,” explains the singer. “It’s somewhat strange to be writing these words because we were married as young Mormons who held fundamental beliefs about abstaining from alcohol. That belief system fell apart for us as we entered into our adulthood and when it did, the wonderful world of mixology fascinated us. I think of us like a gin & tonic – on our own we are two very different drinks, but together we are quite something.”
Growing up as a devout Christian, music played a big part in everyday life for Madam Bandit and her family. Determined to carry out her religious duties and also her dreams, she went on a mission to make both happen. Releasing multiple successful indie albums under her given name, Mindy Gledhill, the American singer has gone on to change her name, her sound, and her vision. Now, Madam Bandit’s latest project sees her entering the realms of an electro-pop alter ego. Her forthcoming EP, “Punch You In The Face,” explores themes of sexual liberation and feminism. From tongue-in-cheek track “At The Disco” to the emotional ballad “Punctured Lungs,” Madam Bandit is positioned to steal the electro-pop limelight.
