We may be on the brink of what is set to be a blisteringly cold winter, but this isn’t stopping 20-year-old KEHLI from dropping the summer-ready single “Not Okay”. Boasting warming and intimate textures, the artist debuts a heavy dose of alt-pop for her new single, layering the smooth guitar-led production with euphoric and crips vocals. Adding touches of soul and contemporary pop, KEHLI subtly bends the norms of the genre and shifts into a glossy soundscape filled with ear-worming echos and gentle whistles.
Speaking about her new release, KEHLI said, “‘Not OK’ was a song I felt a lot of release from! It’s about the very moment you realise someone is falling out of love with you or your reality is falling apart and that is one of the worst feelings I’ve ever felt! Putting that concept into a song was hard, but I’m so excited for everyone to hear it as it’s my first release after the worst part of the COVID pandemic is hopefully over. Hoping people can generally relate to it as well.”
Since her debut release, the artist has amassed millions of radio impressions as well as charting in Irish Charts. With various tastemakers labeling her as a one to watch and her debut EP set for release next year, we’re curious to see where 2022 will take her.
