Keeping it 100% authentic for her new indie-pop single is Floyd with “Shadow Self (The Best I Can)”. Bursting with 90s flair and an upbeat attitude, the singer rides the guitar-heavy production, before delivering a fierce chorus filled with soaring vocals and empowering energy. Tapping into an array of emotions for the track, the artist peels back the layers of feelings of melancholy and sadness, but ultimately reaching a warming climax.
“‘Shadow Self (The Best That I Can),’ came to me in pieces. I wrote the musical hook first, that haunting guitar line and chord progression that runs throughout the track,” the artist said while speaking on the track. “It’s all I had for months and every time I played it, I just had this longing, this melancholy and sadness. I wrote several different versions of the song and even recorded it once a couple of years ago.”
Not new to the scene, the artist has had more than two decades worth of experience in music, performing at the famous Red Devil Lounge and the first ever ROCKRGRL Music Conference. With her new song out now, we suggest you blast this on full volume for the maximum effect.
