It’s been five long years, but singer-songwriter Alex Clare is making his return onto the scene with a bang. Dropping his new single “Why Don’t Ya” today, the artist picks up where he left off in 2015, as he continues to showcase his empowering vocals with soul-stirring productions. Filled with impassioned lyricism, the singer effortlessly glides over the simplistic production, before erupting at the chorus and putting his ever-impressive vocals on display.

Speaking about the new single, Alex said, “It captures the numbness that a lot of people get from not being able to express themselves or feel properly because everything is just such a mess. That frustration is something a lot of people can relate to at the moment. I hope so.”

Marking nine years since his global hit “Too Close”, the artist looked back on his career so far, stating that the reason for his hiatus was due to him not sharing the same mindset he first had when starting his journey. “I was writing not for pleasure, but for expression,” he says. “Sometimes it can be quite painful. Performing songs you have written can be painful. A lot of the songs I have written come from a very personal place, and when you perform them it’s not a cathartic experience – you just relive the mindset you were in when you created that piece.”

Spending lockdown writing and recording with famed writer Jamie Hartman, expect huge things from the singer in the coming months.
