It’s been just over a month since The Lost Daughter had its premiere at Venice Film Festival and we’re finally getting a trailer. Dropping its first teaser today, Maggie Gyllenhal takes us through a mind-bending psychological drama for her feature film debut and the trailer is having us on the edge of our seats. Focusing on mysterious figure Leda (Olivia Colman), we’re lead to the scenic seaside where seemingly nothing could go wrong. But when Leda finds herself becoming obsessed with another woman and her daughter, secrets and long-forgotten memories about her own motherhood become to unravel and suddenly, things aren’t quite what they seem.
Starring an all-star cast including Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Peter Sarsgaard and Paul Mescal, the film received a four-minute standing ovation during its premiere with Gyllenhaal all taking home the Golden Osella for Best Screenplay. With the film set for release December 31, we say strap in tight, because this thriller is looking all types of thrilling.
