Is it just us, or does fashion month seem to be never-ending this year? With this year’s Met Gala taking over the ‘gram and the excitement of London Fashion Week having left the fashion lovers of the world well and truly fed, it may seem that the buzz surrounding all things fashion couldn’t get any more electric. Well, think again, as the cobbled streets of Italy came calling over the last few days for one of the year’s most coveted events: Milan Fashion Week. From Y2K collections to technology-focused displays, head below to enjoy the highlights from this season’s Italy-bound affair…
Wonderland.
MILAN FASHION WEEK
From Y2K collections to dual displays on a global scale, Blumarine, Prada and more grace this season’s Italy-bound display.
Max Mara
Ensuring that ecru hues and oatmeal shades had their moment in Milan, Max Mara came through with an utterly dreamy RTW SS22 display. As the ultimate cool-girl wardrobe prevailed, the Italian fashion house treated its fans to a heavenly cream and earth-toned colour palette which adorned sleek outerwear and co-ords galore.
ETRO
Florals in Spring? Groundbreaking! Despite what Miranda Priestly may claim, ETRO’s nature facing and boho print-filled collection was a welcomed switching of pace from the season’s more tailoring-heavy displays. With slouchy cuts and rippling fabrics taking centre stage, the collection’s ethos, which was focused on the themes of lightness, positivity and celebrating life, shone through, giving the show and fashion month a much needed uplifting tone.
TOD’s
If, like us, you have an obsession with sporty sensibilities, TOD’s recent collection is for you. With the feelings of lightness at its forefront, the house unveils its urban-yet-open collection, packed full of petit trench coats sporty windbreakers, allowing for a city-ready wardrobe to present itself. And, who doesn’t love a clashing of jersey material and leather? With many a piece in the collection boasting beautiful blend materials, we were also offered an infectious clashing of textures. With Gigi Hadid also heading up the show, it quickly became one of the standout displays from the week.
Prada
There is only one thing better than a one fashion show, and that is two. In a bid to make the unveiling of its SS22 display as spectacular as possible, Prada took to both Milan and Shanghai for the dual show of our dreams. In homage to the pandemic-induced surge in technological advancements, watchers, both in person and virtually, were treated to a simultaneous-yet-global display filled with shocking orange dresses with silhouette-enhancing gatherings, leather biker jackets and a display of urban trains done right. Thanks for providing the grandeur and dramatics, Miuccia and Raf!
Blumarine
While all of the shows did what they needed to do in terms of making this Milan Fashion Week one to remember, no one did it quite like Blumarine. One for Y2K-crazed TikTokers, the Italian designer unveiled a line littered with embellished thongs, denim butterfly bralettes and floor-sweeping gowns as we were all sent invited to take a step back into the 00s. Standing as the inspiration for all of our future ‘fits, the Blumarine SS22 collection is one that we won’t be forgetting any time soon.
