Thanks to the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, the pop-punk genre is having its moment this year. Hoping to join the “Driver’s Licence” singer at the helm of 2021’s biggest music movement is singer-songwriter, Denis Coleman, with his new release, “pillowTHOUGHTS”. As the song commences, listeners will fall into the artist’s candy-like vocals that deliver lyrics rooted in tormented romance. But as the chorus nears, the track’s backing begins to swell, peaking in a dizzying crashing of drums and distorted guitars that give the song a deliciously angsty tone, one that we have all come to love over the last few months,

And, the only thing that could possibly make the release better is an accompanying music video, which is exactly what the artist is giving his fans. In the hopes of reflecting the duality of the track, the artist’s visuals offer the scenes of him serenading a love interest, all the while embroiled in an anxious state of torment, as the pair then go on to battle through aggressive pillow fights and sea-bound struggles.

“The video explores the themes of the song through a dream-like hallucination that stitches conflict, connection and nostalgia together into a confused but cohesive mass in the way that an overactive nocturnal imagination – ‘pillowTHOUGHTS’ – so often does. I was so grateful to have such an inspiring team working alongside me, especially Sam Leviton, the director, who envisioned and orchestrated it all with me. I hope you enjoy ‘pillowTHOUGHTS’!”
