The multi-platinum pop-trio, Cheat Codes, have called upon some of the industry’s most talented players for their triumphant new track, “Never Love You Again”. Featuring a cacophony of harmonious vocals and synth-filled production littered with dance-inducing beat drops, listeners are treated to the juxtaposing tale of unhealthy relationships, all the while getting lost in the summery sounds of the anthem. And, with the s of Little Big Town and Bryn Christopher lending their diverse musical talents to the track, it becomes all the more special as it becomes a summer anthem worthy of the name.

“Bryn penned the original lyrics and chorus with co-writer Andrew Jackson in the UK. Bryn then sent the idea to good pals Cheat Codes in LA. The guys worked alongside co-producer Andreas Kruger to nail the dance production. Cheat Codes then decided to do a cold reach out to Nashville based Little Big Town with the demo and asked to collaborate – the band unanimously came back with an ecstatic, ‘yes let’s do this,”” explains the group when speaking on the collaborative nature of the project.

Upon the release of their latest track, the band sat down with Wonderland to discuss their beginnings in the world of music, the collaborative nature of their newest cut, and their upcoming debut album. Head below to read our interview with Cheat Codes now…

Hi Cheat Codes, how are you doing?
Hey, what’s up! We’re doing well. We’re excited to be here.

Talk us through your beginnings as a group, how did you meet?
We were all doing our own projects prior to teaming up! Trevor and Matt knew each other before they met in LA. Matt was in a rock band and Trevor was a singer-songwriter. They performed together at a show and eventually moved in together. Matt and I met through a mutual lawsuit! Matt introduced me to Trevor and we all collaborated on some projects. We really worked well together and kept continuing to make music together.

Who would you cite as your biggest influences? Do you have another pop group that you admire?
We get our influence from all types of musicians and artists. We really enjoy listening to rock and punk music because that’s what we grew up with. We all listened to bands like Fallout Boy and Blink 182. We’re also really inspired by other genres such as dance and hip-hop. Pop groups like BLACKPINK and Little Mix are awesome. We collaborated with Little Mix back in 2018 for the song “Only You” and they were amazing.

What would you say is the most fun part of working in a band?
The most fun part of working in a band is just being able to vibe with each other’s energy. It doesn’t feel like we’re working when we’re making music together because of how much fun we have. We like to mess around but we’re also focused on our music. It’s also nice hearing all the different ideas and sounds we come up with. Putting them all together and hearing the final project is super fulfilling.

Congratulations on the release of “Never Love You Again”! Can you talk us through the meaning of the track?
Thank you! The song is an upbeat, summer song that has a pretty sad story. It’s about struggling to leave someone that’s toxic for you. It’s super anthemic and we’re looking forward to performing it live.

The track also comes in collaboration with Little Big Town and Bryn Christopher. How did this union come about?
Bryn penned the original lyrics and chorus with co-writer Andrew Jackson in the UK. Bryn then sent the idea to good pals Cheat Codes in LA. The guys worked alongside co-producer Andreas Kruger to nail the dance production. Cheat Codes then decided to do a cold reach out to Nashville-based Little Big Town with the demo and asked to collaborate – the band unanimously came back with an ecstatic, “yes let’s do this!”

You have had a wildly successful career that has seen you work with the likes of Trippie Red, Demi Lovato and Little Mix. What would you say has been your biggest achievement to date?
We’re so proud of all of our accomplishments and projects but we’d say the thing we’re most excited about right now is the release of our debut album HELLRAISERS. It’s a three-part album and we just dropped the first part a few months ago. It’s such an amazing accomplishment for us because we’ve been making music for a while and released tons of singles. However, it wasn’t until recently when we planned to release a full album and we’re really proud of how it came together.

Who would be your dream collaborator?
There are so many artists we would love to collaborate with. We like working with musicians from all types of backgrounds and genres. Some of our dream collaborators would include Calvin Harris and Drake.

What is next for you as a group? Do you have any other projects that you are currently working on?
We’re currently working on the second part of our album. We’re really excited for our fans to hear this part because it’s going to be influenced by a lot of pop and punk. It’s going to be nostalgic and a throwback to when a lot of pop and punk bands were dominating the music scene. There are some collaborations that we’re really excited to share!
