We know what you are thinking. The triumphant return of Lorde, and the news of new albums and summery singles that followed, has single-handedly saved us from the depths of despair during this covid-stricken summer. Well, think again. Hacking her second single from her highly-anticipated album, Lorde unveils the melancholy tune “Stoned at the Nail Salon”.
Emulating a drastically different sound to her previous single “Solar Power”, fans have been treated to a tear-inducing acoustic instalment from their beloved star. With production laying bare and the faint strum of a guitar present, Lorde’s gentle vocals are given permission to steer the meandering lyrics that fill the song. With overwhelming conversations on outgrowing your younger self, heartbreak and her dead dog at the heart of the tune, it would be fair to say that the track should come accompanied with the recommendation of having a box of tissues close by whilst listening.
But, fear not! With album Solar Power set for release on August 20th, there is still hope for a hot girl summer. But until then, brace yourselves for a few evenings spent deep in your feels with Lorde playing on full blast.
