The passionate declarations and whirlwind plots synonymous with rose-tinted rom-coms are something that many aspire to replicate in their own love lives. Channelling these aspirations into her work, rising pop star Anja Kotar drops her new track “Love Song”. Saccharine sweet in nature, the melodic song blends the artist’s fairytale vocals and the faint strum of acoustic instrumentation which culminate in sounds that you’d expect to lay over the joyous final scenes of a 00s New York-based romance tale. And, with the artist penning the plot to her own love-infused tale, the lyrics are poetic and captivating in nature.

“With not much else to do during quarantine, I started watching a lot of films (mostly romantic comedies) and started fantasising about the perfect meet-cute,” explains the artist. “I’m a huge romantic and I always envisioned love like in the movies – deep and authentic, finding your ‘the one’ person in the most magical, beautiful way. I started writing ‘Love Song’ as sort of my thesis on how I view love, how I one day hope it turns out for me. I sent the demo to my friend and producer Dimitri Morris, and a few days later, he came back with this dreamy, almost Disney princess-like instrumental that can now be heard in the song.”

The new track is a glimmering example of the way in which the artist is able to tap into the musings of her peers, which include thoughts of online dating, toxic beauty standards and obsessions with technology, in order to create playfully relatable tracks. And with “Love Song” having been hacked from the artist’s upcoming EP “Songs From Isolation”, which was born out of deep lockdown contemplations, fans can expect further displays of Kotar’s cloying vocals and abundance of rich lyrics very soon.
