The #FreeBritney movement has captivated the attention of the world over the last year. After the explosive details of the singer’s treatment from father Jamie Spears and fellow conservators surfaced, an eruption of support from fans and celebrities alike littered news and social media platforms. And after tell-all documentaries such as Framing Britney Spears aired, the call for legal action against the controlling nature of her situation has ensued. Now, in an unprecedented move, Britney Spears herself has appeared in front of a judge to testify on the treatment she has faced for over a decade and ask to be freed from her conservatorship.

Appearing in the LA courts via phone call, Britney detailed the “abusive” nature of her situation. Claiming that she feels “ganged up on”, “bullied” and “alone”, the singer explained the lack of freedom she has over her own life which includes the inability to have her IUD removed and marry long-time boyfriend Sam Asghari as well as being forced to perform against her will. Comparing her treatment to that of sex trafficking after being involuntarily taken to hospital and given different medication without her knowledge, Britney’s claim in court of “I deserve to have a life” further lifted the veil on her sobering reality.

Following the star’s brave display in the courts, there has been an outpouring of support from famous names including the star’s former boyfriend Justin Timberlake and singer Mariah Carey. Head below to see their sentiments…
