Silvia Venturini Fendi concocts a pastel-hued fashion daydream for the House’s SS22 Menswear collection.
Feast your eyes on Fendi’s paradise of pastel menswear for SS22. Born from watching the world reflect above the surface of the water, lightness, ease and comfort all come together in the latest spectacle from the Italian brand, each silhouette more fluid than the last. Think of it as a fashion daydream, with colours exaggerated and fleeting, prints loud yet controlled, and silhouettes freer than a butterfly fresh out of the cocoon.
“Our singular point of view in this period has modified our perception of the world – and mine has become so linked to what I see from the arches and the rooftop of our building,” says Silvia Venturini Fendi, the house’s Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear, of the inspiration behind the collection. “It is almost like a bird’s eye view of Rome from here. The colours and the perspective are always changing – the soft palette of the Roman sky across the day is so beautiful and I wanted it to be a focal point of this collection. How you see things – and from where you see them – has never been more important.”
Venturini’s journey begins with various shades of fresh green, tailored in a mid-riff, elbow bearing jacket and trousers combination of pastel limes, or muted in shearling shorts and full suits that are paired with slinky crop tops and mini-baguette body chains. This continues in knitwear, emblazoned with slouchy new double F insignia, on stretchy polo shirts and slouchy cargo pants before transitioning into territories full of lavender.
Here, shirts get looser, waistbands get stretchier, and accessories pop like a top 10 Britney hit. Sunset concoctions of light, hazy browns and cloudy whites also begin creeping into the mix on long coats and fuzzy, oversized jackets. Sunglasses, chain bags and suede bags adopt a corresponding palette, each piece a puzzle in the saga of power dressing that mixes chunky trainers and fur-lined sandals that sees the collection, and indeed Venturini herself, dream of a tropical getaway.
With shirt-hems rising in a curved fashion, exposing smooth leather belts, shorts adopting big, chunky pockets and denim swirling with acidic dye, FENDI abandon the strict, rigid, and proper, prioritising style that doesn’t take itself too seriously, as if it could melt into the sun at any moment. Their SS22 menswear collection is a breath of fresh air after a year spent in tracksuits and PJs, each mini-baguette and rave-ready baggy t-shirt retaining the comfort and familiarity of those go-to pieces, yet somehow still looking like a million bucks. It just goes to show that glamour isn’t all about fancy tuxes and big gowns…
