On “Whine”, rising Afrobeats star Gyakie commands us to bust a move.

It’s not often that an artist will be touted as the Queen of The Gold Coast only two years into their career, but then again, Gyakie is no ordinary artist. Hailing from Ghana, the rising Afrobeats star is a total force to be reckoned with as the inaugural face of Spotify’s Equal campaign, and in recent months has cemented herself as a bonafide hit-maker with “Forever”, accumulating over 25 million streams worldwide. But on new tune “Whine”, Gyakie is taking her relaxed sounds and wild success to new heights, so you best believe we’re already strapped in tight for the ride.

The Reggaeton tune lends itself from her 2021 “Seed” EP, a five-track endeavour in slow grooves and all things chill. “[It’s] a tropical dancehall/reggae joint that makes it almost impossible not to bust a move and do exactly what I ask in the hook: ‘whine fi di gyal dem slow whine’” says Gyakie of the track. “I made this in a happy mood and I want all my listeners to have that energy while enjoying the music.”

Well, it suffices to say, Gyakie’s mission has well and truly been accomplished. Now that the sun is sort of here to stay, we suggest you charge your speakers, grab your deckchairs, slap on that SPF and sun it up to this ridiculously vibey tune. Once those tropical drums kick in, we promise your serotonin will thank you for it.
