So the rumours are true! After a slew of mysterious billboards started cropping up in major metropolitan areas across the US last week, our beloved musical powerhouse Tyler, The Creator has returned, bringing us a sonic bang on new track “LUMBERJACK”.

Fans were already anticipating such an event, having Nancy Drew’d their way around various clues and tid-bits that date back to the rapper’s pre-Covid red carpet looks. When another mysterious teaser premiered on his Youtube this week, featuring Creator lip-smacking atop a hazy pink car with Helena Howard, it suffices to say the baited-breath waiting intensified even more, this time in reference to an entirely new track – “Sweet”.

That about brings us to last night, when the video “LUMBERJACK” dropped and sent us all into a total frenzy. Over a murky beat that samples Gravediggaz classic “2 Cups of Blood”, the endeavour recalls the glory days of 90s hip-hop, infused with all the drama and swagger you’d find in a vintage skate video. Name checking everyone from Malcolm In the Middle to Drake and Mulan, Creator wholeheartedly revives the lyrical tenacity of his early career, bringing back punchy raps, Golf Le Fleur fashions, and, of course, some signature hazy visuals self-directed by the man himself. How did we win like this?

Welcome back, Tyler! Here’s to the 50 Grammy’s you’re about to win for your new album.
