I’m sure we can all agree that indie-pop is just the best genre of music on the planet, especially when David Boyd is behind the wheel. The Copenhagen-born singer-songwriter has been a fan of the genre since he was a kid, brought up on his parent’s respective rock and pop favourites. But funnily enough, it’d be dance music that really set Boyd on his path to becoming his own music-maker.

With his body as the tool, dance connected Boyd to a slew of influential producers and fellow musicians from both Denmark and Sweden, with Boyd himself often acting as a translator. As time went on, the artist naturally found himself drawn to the art of songwriting, putting deeply probing lyrics to his own tunes before setting off to the US to form his own band, New Politics. After a slew of successful albums and worldwide tours, Covid put a big, fat spanner in the works, but as the world stopped, Boyd’s pen continued…

That leads us to his brand new single “Stay or Walk Away”, the first teaser of his highly-anticipated upcoming solo album. “[The song] is about living your life on the crossroads or making a decision to wake up and challenge yourself to live authentically,’ says Boyd of the track, which doesn’t pull any punches. Employing heavy guitars and sweet, dance-focused rhythms, the resulting tune could easily nestle itself inside a climactic finale scene in Made In Chelsea – which, in indie terms, might be the highest commendation ever. At least in our books, anyway…
