In case you didn’t know, there are various sides to Twitter: Black Twitter, Fiat 500, Barb Twitter, The Arianators, and of course K-Pop Twitter. Known for their hardcore stan energy and insane detective skills, K-pop fans are easily one of the most dominant forces on the internet and are famous for their ability to champion various groups. From BTS to BLACKPINK, K-pop stans go hard for their favourites, but recently a new wave of groups have popped up on the K-pop conveyer belt, and they’re vying for the crown.

Between the new AI-inspired aespa group to the next-tipped BTS, here are some of the new K-pop groups you need to be knowing.

Hailing from the legendary Rain Company, Ciipher boasts seven members including Hyunbin, Tan, Hwi, Keita, Tag, Dohwan, and Won. Debuting this past March with their smooth-sailing banger “I like you”, the group has been three years in the making. Iconic K-pop singer Rain said, upon meeting the group, he knew they’re people that he could bet on. But while the group may be new, the members have been around for a while, with Tan featuring in MNET’s survival show No.Mercy and Keita and Dohwan staring in YG’s Treasure Box. With the group also debuting their first mini-album An Ggulyeo, Ciipher are already setting out to be huge stars.

MIRAE

Translating to “Future”, MIRAE have already had an explosive debut this year with their smash hit “Killa”. Debuting under DSP Media – home to KARA and Rainbow – the group officially debuted in February through their fan café, and gained over 10 million views for their debut single alone. Featuring Lee Junhyuk, Lein, Douhyun, Khael, Son DongPyo, Park Siyoung, and Jang Yubin, the group is yet to announce their follow-up, but whatever it is, it’s sure to be big.

When it comes to K-pop groups, a lot of the time, groups are given music and choreography from their respective agencies, so you can imagine our surprise when self-producing group PURPLE KISS came along. Heavily involved in their own showmanship and other aspects of music, the group – consisting of seven members including Park Ji-eun, Na Go-eun, Dosie, Ireh, Yuki, Chaein and Swan – first made their pre-debut back in November 2020 with “My Heart Skip a Beat”. Officially entering the scene with their EP “Into Violet” this past February, the group soared through Goan Album Charts and landed at number 11.

Even if you’re not a K-pop stan, you probably would have heard of SM Entertainment’s new girl group aespa – and it’s for a good reason. Hailing from the same agency as the iconic Girls Generation, Red Velvet, ShiNee, and EXO, the four-piece are a pretty big deal in the industry right now, as they are the first girl group since 2014 to debut underneath the legendary agency. Consisting of Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning, the group have already dropped three singles since their debut last year, including electro dance-pop hit “Black Mamba” and mid tempo ballad “Forever”. With the group already snagging Givenchy brand ambassador roles, its fair to say this group have a huge future ahead of them.

If you haven’t heard of TRI.BE, then you must be living under a rock. Known to dominate the TL with their hit singles, the seven-member group under TR Entertainment had a successful run with their debut single “TRI.BE DA LOCA” last year, and came back with “Conmigo” earlier this month. Made up of members SongSun, Kelly, JinHa, HyunBin, Jia, SoEun and Mire, the group have been in training for years, with HyunBin and SongSun a part of former pre-debut trainee group Banana Culture Newkid.

If there is anyone that is currently following in the same footsteps as BTS, it would defiantly be label mates TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT). Often hailed as the leaders of the K-pop 4th generation, the group have had a huge surge in popularity since their debut in 2019, quickly scoring global nominations at both the 2019 and 2020 MTV VMAs. Racking in over 15 million views in 24 hours for their debut single “Crown”, the five-piece consisting of SOOBIN, YEONJUN, BEOMGYU, TAEHYUN, and HUENINGKAI are currently one of K-pop’s hottest acts, with their collabs with BTS’ RM and TikTok star Ashnikko. Releasing their new album The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE this week, we can already see this group reaching the same heights as their “hyungs”.
