While our playlists may be filled with effervescent pop bangers and heart-racing tunes, sometimes we need to break up the fast-paced vibe with a soothing break, and VC Pines delivered with his eagerly-awaited new EP “Concrete”. Flowing in a similar vein as his previously shared cuts, the singer invites us into his woozy pop-filled world with soulful direction and shimmering productions. Touching on elements of contemporary smooth jazz and heartfelt indie sensibilities, the singer uncannily takes listeners to a new territory, that sits somewhere between dimly lit speakeasies and meandering back streets. Leading the pack with the EP’s final single “Compared to Someone Else”, the singer conjures up a mellow R&B production, adding soft twinkling melodies and relaxing vocals.

Speaking about the single, he said, “Lyrically, ‘Compared To Someone Else’ is romantic, nostalgic and fearful. It’s about looking back over times of lost love and having a fear of losing it all and in the end, being compared against something potentially more fulfilling. The song also has an understanding of the general day-to-day of being in a relationship, which for me feels like it’s reaching boiling point. Something has to happen. The main melody has always reminded me of a time I waited for hours in a hotel in Tokyo that had this 30-second jazz melody on a loop literally all day long. It drove me mad. But I wanted to replicate that monotony in an emotional, nostalgic way.”

Born and raised in London, the singer is set to make his grand return to the stage this July for a sold-out show at St Pancras Old Church, due to perform his 2020 project “Skully” and his latest intoxicating cut.
