A time-travelling fashion student is not the figure you’d expect to see at the helm of a horror movie, so, when the details of Edgar Wright’s upcoming Last Night in Soho dropped, chatter amongst movie fanatics was rife. But, with the film’s teaser trailer having dropped today, it is clear that the film is set to be a horror worthy of the name.
With Thomasin McKenzie stepping into the shoes of the film’s lead Eloise, all seems well as we are eased into images of an unsuspecting fashion student living the big-city life. But, with a flick of a physical switch comes a metaphorical one, as we cut to the glitz and glamour of 1960s London through the medium of time travel. As we are taken on a whirlwind journey featuring Anya Taylor-Joy starring as an aspiring 60s singer and Matt Smith as a dashing love interest, psyches begin to deteriorate and pensive music ushers in a wave of terror as Eloise realises that the gift of time travel many be more of a curse. Expect demonic scenes of blacked eyes, blades and hands crashing through walls, oh, and divine retro wardrobes.
With October 22 set as the date for the film’s debut, we still have some waiting to do until Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith take to the big screen to send chills down our spines. But, the teaser trailer has confirmed the promise of a delightfully twisted film.
