If we have to thank 2020 for anything it would be, blessing us with Paul Mescal, introducing us to the wild world of Tiger King, and making us addicted to Netflix’s Emily in Paris. Love it or hate it, the show took over not just the airwaves but the TL too, for its glamorisation of Paris, Sex and the City vibes and light-hearted comedy.

Kicking off filming for season two earlier this month, the production team has already been spoiling us with various casting updates and plotlines, and joining the cast this season will be none other than brilliant playwright Jeremy O. Harris. According to Netflix, O. Harris will play an “iconic designer” who manages to enter Emily’s world, while another addition to the cast Lucien Laviscount will play a sarcastic Brit who gets underneath Emily’s skin. While the casting might seem a bit odd after O. Harris formally dissed the show in an interview with Interview Magazine, the playwright did go on to say that the show’s creator Darren Star “is that bitch”, so we’re assuming they managed to come to an agreement.

The news of O. Harris’ casting follows on from Netflix’s recent revelation, whereby legendary costume designer Patricia Field would be continuing her work on the show, turning down the opportunity to return to HBO’s Sex and the City reboot.

In other Emily in Paris-related news, the second season is currently being met with some criticism after critics blasted the show’s perception of French culture and attitudes. Taking note, the show’s creator Darren Star revealed to Variety that in the new season “Emily will assimilate more French culture”.

“When she got there, she got a bit of a free pass in the beginning and I don’t think it will be quite as easy for her in the second season. I think she will be more assimilated, in terms of living in Paris and stepping up to the challenges of learning the language,” he explains.

The creator went on to say that the new series will see some “unexpected storylines”, following on from the shocking twist at the end of season one, with Star teasing that something very interesting will happen with her love interest Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). With no update on when we can expect the return of the show, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the production news.
