It is safe to say that Studio Ghibli have been leaving their mark on the TL over the last year. New films, books and plays are just some of the projects that the company has been investing their time into as of late, in a bid to keep the Spirited Away and Ponyo fans fed. And, while all of the above has commanded the attention of movie lovers, nothing has caused quite as much of a stir as the film company’s latest tweet of a picture that seems to be teasing a collab with none other than Pixar.

The picture in questions depicts the iconic scene from the 1988 classic My Neighbour Totoro, in which we see Totoro standing at a rainy bus stop. But, instead of the image’s usual characters, Totoro is joined by everyone’s favourite Pixar duo, Sulley and Mike Wazowski of Monsters, Inc. Showing the trio donning umbrellas in the rain, the image is sketched in nature, alluding to this being a potential mock-up of a scene that is yet to come.

While this image has come accompanied by no proof of a collaboration or even a caption that alludes to it, the imagery of these unlikely characters crossing paths has been enough to get film fans talking. And, the most eagle-eyed fans have even brought to light that this won’t be the first time the two companies have referenced each other, as Totoro made a fleeting appearance in Toy Story 3 as Pixar’s way of paying homage to the renowned Japanese animation studio. So, regardless of if this is a potential movie in the works or nothing more than a crossover image, the prospect of these two iconic companies collaborating has us very excited indeed.
