Fans of Marina and Paloma Faith look no further as alt-pop singer Tyra Jutai is about to be your new favourite. Dropping the visual for her new single “FRIDA” today, the singer takes us into her own version of the Golden Age with I’m No Angel-inspired visuals and hair so big drag queens would be on their knees. Taken from her upcoming six-track EP, the slow-burning single is driven by ominous drummer boy percussion and fierce string arrangements.

Opening up on the inspiration behind the single, Tyra revealed, “The song was inspired by a beautiful woman who tried to hook up with my boyfriend while I wasn’t around. I really fixated on the psychology of understanding going after someone else’s lover. When I say ‘were you tortured by the same things that I was, running around looking for love to steal’, what I mean is that both Frida and I were lacking love and trying to find it where we could. In my case, I was lacking respect in my relationship, and in hers, I guess it could be lacking attention or affection.”

Echoing the lyrics through the video, the Toronto native puts on an avant-garde display with eccentric makeup looks and over-the-top fits, while she burns eyes of envy into her competition. Still yet give up the release date from her upcoming EP, “You Weren’t A Muse”, Tyra did reveal that this offering is her favourite from the upcoming project.
