The Tokyo super-producer is joined by Bipolar Sunshine & Buddy on the remix for his debut trap hit.

We’ve been vibing to Dr.Ryo’s “Late Night Flex” for a hot minute now, deeming it the perfect slow-jam for practically any occasion. This week the rising Tokyo-hailed producer is back, and with just as much tenacity as the first time in a star-studded re-up for the track.

Joined by Manchester-helmed rapper Bipolar Sunshine and Zoink Gang’s very own Buddy, the trio soundtrack a trip across a neon city, mixing slow harmonious trap beats with murky bass and stripped-back guitar twangs. “This song is my first single remix version,” says Dr.Ryo of the endeavour, “I’m really excited to release this – and so happy to have Bipolar Sunshine and Buddy on it.”

The song itself centres around being humble, knowing your worth and value but not bragging about it, kind of like a Samurai, which is definitely something we can all work on. But what’s more fascinating is the producer’s exploration of traditional Japanese sounds that coalesce with hip-hop grooves and tongue in cheek lyrics. It’s a combination that maybe shouldn’t work together, but absolutely does anyway, creating the perfect off-kilter chill track.

We think it suffices to say that Dr.Ryo is well on his way to spreading Japanese music all over the world, and we’ll be waiting with eager anticipation to hear what else he’s got up his sleeve.
