Sometimes a change in perspective is all it takes to flip a seemingly bad situation on its head. And, as we prepare for the changing of the season, we are all looking to wipe the emotional slates clean and welcome some positive vibes. This is exactly the premise that Lu Wright has based her latest track on. “Lovely”, featuring British rapper and beat maker Civil, displays the singer’s effortlessly sweet vocals and sun-drenched jazz sounds as we are taken on a journey of personal emotional reflection by the south London artist as she works towards positivity.
“’Lovely’ represents a more positive me, looking back through my life,” explains Wright. “It’s far too easy to dwell on past mistakes and bad life choices, it’s much harder yet far more rewarding to acknowledge your growth and proudly move forward. ‘Lovely’ is less of a song about overcoming hurdles and more of a change in perspective.”
“Lovely” is the third track to be taken from the artist’s upcoming debut EP “Note To Self”. With Wright citing the soul and noughties R&B and hip-hop genres as her inspiration, mixed in with the title’s promise of introspective lyrics and the presence of her ethereal Jorja Smith-esque vocals, the project will be a shimmering summer-infused display. And, with its release set for May, we will be anxiously awaiting its arrival.
