When the tumult of city life seems overbearing, we can always turn to James Vickery for a little slice of serene heaven. The rising South London R&B star, who turned many a head with his debut on A COLORS SHOW back in 2019, joins us today with the third offering from his forthcoming (and as of yet, untitled) debut album, and it’s a bloody corker.

“Hourglass” details a lustful relationship with a past flame, an ode to her beauty and the time they spent together. Speaking of the new track, the singer said, “I wrote this song last year with my dear friends Louis Mattrs (who produced “Until Morning”) and J Warner. I then took the demo to Stint – who I’ve been a huge fan of for years due to his work with Sabrina Claudio and Nao. He turned the song into the sultry R&B track that I always wanted it to be!”

Let us tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. The sensual offering is all chill-grooves and stirring emotions. Vickery’s familiar and soulful croon is softer than soft, like a puddle of melted butter that trickles over stirring drums and echoing beats as he recalls the pleasure of their late-night trysts. Not maniacally horny or totally frigid, “Hourglass” nestles comfortably in between both of these worlds, hoping and longing for the passion of such an exuberant lover once more.
