It’s official. The date for the commencement of sad girl summer has been set. Olivia Rodrigo took to her Instagram last night to unveil the date, title, tracklist and cover for her highly-anticipated debut album and we personally cannot wait to hear it. Entitled Sour, the 11-track album is set for release on May 21st. With new tracks such as “Hope Ur Ok” and “Brutal” joining everyone’s favourite sad girl song “Driver’s License” and new hit “Deja Vu”, the promise of heartbreak-filled bops hangs in the air.
The visuals for the album – which offer a moody looking Olivia showcasing the album’s title on her tongue and donning a face full of stickers and gems against a deep lilac background – sets the tone and offers us some ideas as to what May will bring. Complete with a parental guidance warning, we can expect more post-breakup feels that are sure to have you singing your heart out – and maybe reaching for the tissues.
With the singer’s debut singles having received praise from the likes of Wonderland cover star Taylor Swift and dominated the TikTok charts, the young star shows no signs of slowing down. Be sure to mark May 21st in your calendars, we certainly have.
