Brockhampton have done it again. Just when we thought we had seen it all, the group have provided us with yet another wildly entertaining – albeit slightly surreal – music video. After the release of their 6th album Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine last week, the 11-piece hip-hop ensemble has seen their latest offering warmly received by their devoted fans, especially the track “Count On Me” – which has been dubbed as the “Sugar” of this particular album. No good Brockhampton bop is complete without accompanying visuals, however, so true to form the band released the music video for the song which sees Lil Nas X and Dominic Fike starring as blissful lovers and it is as bizarre as it sounds.

Opening up on a warm summer’s evening, we see the pair enjoying a lovers weekend getaway as they candidly discuss music with the hood of their car down. These seemingly sweet and innocent scenes quickly take a strange turn as we see a storm brewing and the duo pulling into a very creepy forest as Lil Nas and Fike begin to undergo trippy contortions and psychedelic hues fill the screen, along with the flashing imagery of cats and various other animals. The music then slows alluding to a peak in the video until we are offered a steamy makeout sesh. That’s right, to end an already-confusing music video we are offered a uber-sensual minute-long make out sesh that sees a naked and lake-bound Lil Nas and Dominic embracing.

With Kevin Abstract and Dan Streit credited as directors of the video, the creative yet wild nature of the visuals begin to make a bit more sense. And, with the psychedelics and car imagery harking back to group’s music video for “Buzzcut” that was released a few weeks ago, it is clear that there is a very trippy theme running throughout this album. With the promise of another album on the horizon and countless other tunes from Roadrunner yet to be accompanied by visuals, it is safe to say we cannot wait to see what the collective will do next.
