Most of us will be aware of the life-saving impact of a kind word, or a hand on the shoulder from someone that loves you. The tumultuous events of the last year and isolation have thrown a light on how much we need those close to us to help us through a hard time. And no one understands this better than British singer-songwriter Keir, who has teamed up with long-time friend and artist Fenne Lily, for his most personal and raw song yet.

Like so many of us, lockdown threw a spanner in the works of life and plans, but for Keir, the death of his grandfather, followed by the end of a long-term relationship, left him struggling and alone. But thankfully, friend Fenne was there on Facetime throughout the worst of it. Twinkling into life via Keir’s soaring vocals and heart-wrenching lyricism, “Leave A Light On” deals with loss, longing, as well as friends that help us survive the lows and start again.

“I remember being on FaceTime constantly with Fenne, mostly consisting of her watching me cry,” explains Keir frankly. “After a little bit of healthy wallowing, I started writing again. In a way, I suppose, the song is about that time. It’s about everything I was feeling.”

And for Fenne, her warm words were a no-brainer, as she added: “to lend my shoulder – and my voice – to my favourite person is a true joy.”

And the hazy scrapbook visuals, which were shot over 24 hours, follows the two singers through their day and into the night, laughing, joking and sharing a beer by a fire – a spine-tingling ode to friendship.
