It’s a rarity, but every so often a new voice comes along with the ability to bowl the listener over. And that much is true of newcomer Georgia Cécile who has been spearheading the exciting new wave of UK female jazz talents with her soulful vocals and celebratory compositions.
For fans of Celeste and Nina Simone, her new single “Always Be Right” sizzles and crackles with a fusion of Memphis soul horns, gospel rhythms and triumphant live instrumentation – the perfect platform for Cécile’s undulating vocals, which swoop to heavenly highs and playful lows. Inspired by a dark time in Cécile’s life which saw her brother recover from a serious illness, lyrics such as “made it through my darkest day, you became my saving grace…” sees the rising star exploring the beauty and elation to be found after dark times.
“This song is all about the pure live energy of the band, and I wanted to capture that in the video and show how much fun we have in the studio. I hope that feeling translates!” explains Cécile.
There is no doubt that Cécile’s trajectory is on the up following murmurs of the mesmerising kinetic energy of her live performances which have seen her sell out a number of shows at jazz festivals across the UK. “Always Be Right” marks the start of an exciting year for the one-to-watch, who is set to drop several singles ahead of a highly-anticipated debut album later this year.
