Chances are, if you’ve loved in the age of corona, you’ve probably batted away your fair share of exes popping up this past year. You know, people who have likely pushed you one too many times, and don’t deserve your endless reserve of patience. And one artist coming through with a sizzling R&B anthem to empower those of us in that exact situation is rising star Thuy with “Chances”.

With ethereal vocals akin to Ariana Grande, the Bay Area artist first made waves with her body-shaking hit “Hands On Me”, and has been honing her hypnotic fusion of soulful vocals, trapped-out production and earworm melodies ever since. And “Chances” is no exception, as Thuy teams up with LA-bred R&B singer/rapper DCMBR to reflect on a past relationship via a honey-smooth track. Slowly her feelings of insecurity turn into those of fiery empowerment. And these universal lessons of self-confidence and growth are messages that Thuy wants to spread throughout her music, a narrative bolstering her forthcoming debut EP.

“When I’m in a relationship, I give it my all and I tend to compromise myself to keep the relationship together,” she explains. “I always let him get his way, but it still wasn’t enough. I realised I should have left sooner instead of sticking around and giving him so many chances. This track is about me finding the strength to say no more.”
