Champagne and gun fingers at the ready, because Virginie Viard hosted a night to remember for the French fashion house’s AW21 collection.
Eruptions of laughter amongst the endless chatter, secrets on makeup tricks traded like foreign deals and the subtle yet noisy hum of party thumping music echoing throughout: Chanel channelled one of the most timeless acts of friendship and togetherness for their AW21 collection and invited us to an intimate and fun-filled night out. Hosted at Left bank’s most famous Parisian nightclubs, Virginie Viard closed the doors to society and invited only the girls for a riotous and tweed-infested party that had everyone gagging for an invite.
Dripping in oversized sheep-skin coats and faux fur, models sashayed through a labyrinth of salons in the club, slinging their coats in one by one in a lush pile at coat check, and making their way to the smoking area and bathroom for chatter and spontaneous mirror moments.
“I imagined the models doing a show for themselves, going from room to room, crossing each other in staircases, piling their coats up in the cloakroom and going up to the next floor to get changed,” Viard revealed.” And I thought of the shows that Karl would tell me about, back in the day, a long time ago, when the models would dress themselves and do their own make-up.”
While chic nostalgic pieces were reinvented with an after-dark allure, the French house delivered a boatload of new Chanel pieces for us, keeping us on our toes and ready for post-lockdown activities. Crystal-drenched coin holders, retro dungarees and spangled garters, were just some of the pieces that Viard played with this collection, as she honed in on a more youthful and party-ready vibe. A ski theme was also present throughout the collection, as glittering snowflakes adored cosy beanie hats and winter-ready sweaters. With club Chanel filled to the brim with an eclectic mix of styles and fabrics, we already know where we’re going on June 21.
