Dsquared2’s AW21 co-ed collection is a love letter to Canada’s great outdoors and all the parties we’re yet to attend…
Weaving together Canada’s great outdoors, bustling metropolitan life and elements of impeccable Italian tailoring, Dsquared2’s AW21 co-ed collection signals a new era for the brand, a forging forth into the great unknown that is the roaring twenty-twenties.
According to the girls and boys of Dsquared2, parties are one of, if not the most serious events in the world. How else would we blow off steam and celebrate the most monumental occasions of our lives? Really they are a space for no-holds-barred antics and plenty of self-indulgence, two of the world’s greatest vices when you think about it. In a philosophical sense, they’re even where you facilitate your growth as a person, figuring out your binge-drinking limits, confiding your deepest emotions to a stranger at 4AM, and bringing you that much closer to meeting a fateful character who has the power to change your life forever.
With that in mind, Canada’s most revered design duo wanted to muster up that head-rushy feel you get after putting on your glad-rags by fusing the intimacy of a strobe-lit club with the sparse landscape of the country’s many open forests. The boys turn up in patchwork gilets and trucker caps, with baggy plaid trousers and even baggier double-breasted trench coats. Whether they’re donning the most elegant of snakeskin tote bags, or a monogram mesh vest under an entire tux, rest-assured they’re here to bring the party, and won’t be leaving until they’ve lost all of their inhibitions.
The girls are similarly ready to conquer the party scene, bringing bright colours and tactile looks to the fore. Subdued sparkly leotards compliment glitter-laden bucket bags in burnt orange and lime green, paired with the sexiest plaid lumberjack shirt you’ve ever laid eyes on. Other partygoers opt for chunky knits and nameplate chokers, maybe shearling coats or mirror-jewelled dresses finished with subdued lace fringing. Our favourite fit of the night HAS to be that slinky rhinestone wrap top and miniskirt combo, reminiscent of a early 00’s Xtina fit or a missing look from Girls Aloud’s “Love Machine” video – which in other words is akin to absolute perfection.
Ultimately, Dsquared2’s clubbers are looking for good times, and tons of them considering the doom and gloom we’ve been spoon-fed for the last year or so. If you can’t beat them, join ‘em – so someone might have to give us the plug on those thigh-high lace boots…
