With the way this past year has gone, we’re all in desperate need of freedom. Whether it be jetting off to an unknown destination with nothing but a passport in hand, or sitting on the shoulders of a fellow music-lover at a scorching hot festival, any form of freedom is craved by everyone right now, and understanding this need with their rebellious AW21 collection is ETRO.

Channelling a non-conformist and independent attitude, designer Veronica Etro explores the brand’s meaning of freedom and presents a collection that boasts precious juxtaposed prints, rich embroidery and 80s-inspired fringe blazers. Pulling on inspiration from hard-rocker Jimi Hendrix and traditional Russian ballet motifs, the designer draws on both his indie style and the intricate embroidery of costume designing, and transforms into a variety of special pieces that are characterised by a loose fitting silhouettes, exotic tiger prints and hints of feminine sophistication and street style.

With models walking across a vast industrial space, the designer fills the open area with bright light and artistically tattoos the room with paisley motifs, turning the once blank canvas in a rich and colourful room that sets the tone for the collection. As the natural sunlight shined through the huge industrial windows, the show began and singer-songwriter Arlissa led us through with a guitar-led ballad that instantly puts us at ease and leaves us feeling reassured. While we can’t yet explore the world and take advantage of everything it has to offer, ETRO is giving us a taste of what is to come and we’re craving more.
