It’s coming. The day we thought we would never see is finally within sight, and we’re currently counting down the hours, days and seconds till we can finally be released from the shackles of lockdown on June 21. Yesterday, Boris Johnson laid out the government’s plan to ease lockdown amid the pandemic, offering his tentative dates for reopening up the world and kickstarting our lives. As the highlights go, March 8 will see schools reopening; March 29, we can meet up with six of our favourite mates, April 12 we can finally cut off our lockdown tresses and return to working on our summer body at the gym; May 17 we can socialise indoors; and by June 21 social distancing will be a thing of the past and we can FINALLY return to the dance floor.
It’s been a trying time, and so a careful balancing act of realism and optimism (plus the UK’s tattered history of endless lockdowns), we’re still hesitant about our pending social return. Either way, we needed some optimism about the whole situation, and of course, the TL reacted to the news with nothing but hilarious memes.
