Making their grand return to the scene with their new electronic-pop single is three-piece unit Modeling with “Nothing Unexpected”. Leading us in slow with a shimmering opener, the single erupts into a retro kaleidoscope filled with bold lyricism, glittering synths and mind-bending nostalgia. Expertly combining this with their new empowered attitude, the group are providing us with some escapism during these unprecedented times, infusing cinematic elements with boundary-pushing sounds.
“There’s a tinge of hopelessness embedded in the lyrics,” Modeling explained while talking about the track. “Because at the time I really struggled with this idea that everything good I was ever going to feel had already been felt and everything moving forward would just be a lesser version of what came before. And so that’s where the title stems from, this thought that nothing would ever compare or feel quite the same, there would be nothing new that I hadn’t already experienced, no surprises, nothing unexpected. It’s naive to think, but it’s where my mind settled at that particular point in time.”
Originally coming from a prog-rock background, the group comprising of three bothers signed at a young age under the name PMtoday. But left feeling trapped in a contract, the group disbanded only a year later. Gathering their thoughts and creativity in the years that followed, the group reinvented themselves as Modeling and haven’t turned back since. Spending the past year writing and producing, the group are set to drop their retro-futuristic inspired EP later this year.
